As part of our ongoing commitment to restore ecosystems and empower communities, Prosper for Greening Community Base recently conducted a practical training session on the best methods for planting fruit seedlings, especially mangoes.
The activity aimed at equipping local farmers and households with hands-on knowledge that will ensure higher survival rates of seedlings, stronger root development, and sustainable harvests in the future. Mango trees, known for their nutritional and economic value, are central to the greening initiative as they not only provide shade and improve soil fertility but also serve as a long-term income source for families.
During the training, community members were guided on:
- Proper spacing techniques to maximize growth and prevent disease spread.
- Soil preparation methods for better root establishment.
- Watering schedules that balance sustainability and crop health.
- Organic fertilization for long-term productivity.
This activity is part of the wider Greening Africa Project that continues to focus on restoring degraded lands, improving food security, and strengthening livelihoods.
The project is managed by Prosper for Greening Community Base, Tanzania, in collaboration with our partners Pachamama Raymi from Peru, and proudly supported by our Dutch sponsors: STICHTING PERSPECTIEF, STICHTING SUMMER FUND, and STICHTING OTTERFONDS.
By teaching practical greening methods such as fruit tree planting, we not only combat climate change but also promote community resilience, nutrition, and long-term prosperity.
At Prosper for Greening Community Base, we believe that a greener Africa begins with empowered communities and this training is another step toward making that vision a reality.
